Columns

Columns are cylindrical containers used primarily for distillation or extraction of substances in (petroleum) chemical industries. They play a critical role in chemical or petrochemical plants. The processes in columns usually only run at a specific temperature.

Insulation purposes

1. Reducing heat loss

2. Ensuring protection against contact by reducing surface temperature

3. Reducing the cooling of stored substances to keep them fluid instead of curing

4. Ensuring that chromatographic columns remain at the necessary processing temperature

5. Preventing heating of stored substances (e.g. by solar radiation)
